Top Tips to Reduce Stress: Finding Your Calm in a Chaotic World
In today’s fast-paced world, stress can feel like an unwelcome companion creeping into our daily lives. Whether it’s due to work pressures, personal challenges, or external uncertainties, managing stress is crucial for maintaining our mental and physical well-being. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep per night, and create a sleep-friendly environment—dim the lights, reduce noise, and disconnect from screens at least an hour before bedtime. Try relaxation techniques such as reading, going for a warm bath, or gentle stretching to unwind before sleep. If you are like me and are lucky to get a solid 3 hours of sleep, try to give yourself 10-15 minutes to close your eyes and relax. Put your phone on silent, shut your office door, go sit in your car, or on a bench and just sit. Give your mind a break so it can work better!

Spending time in nature can have profound effects on mental health and stress reduction. Research shows that exposure to natural environments can lower levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. Take a walk in a park, hike a nearby trail, or simply sit outside to enjoy the fresh air. Even small doses of nature can help boost your mood and promote relaxation.

Repeat this several times to promote relaxation and bring your focus back to the present. When I remember to do this, it is amazing how it allows you to lift a little weight off your shoulders. It isn’t a cure all but it does help.

9. Create a To-Do List
Feeling overwhelmed by tasks can heighten stress levels. To create a sense of control, create a to-do list to organize your tasks and prioritize what needs to be done. Break larger projects into smaller, manageable steps, and celebrate your accomplishments as you complete each task. This not only helps you stay organized but also provides a sense of achievement. I do one of these nightly, BUT I only allow myself to put 6 items on there. These are the 6 that I would love to accomplish, my top priorities. This can be difficult because I have a lot more than 6 things I need to get done in a day, but this allows me to narrow down the most important. I can always add to the list or make changes if life throws curveballs. Sometimes we overwhelm ourselves with 100 tasks on a to-do list. This is me. I have so many daily alarms because I have so much that I want to get done, but honestly, its exasperating. Start small. You can always add.
