Strawberry Basil Margarita

Save for Later

A Strawberry Basil Margarita is a delightful twist on the classic margarita, combining the sweetness of strawberries with the aromatic flavor of basil. Here’s a simple recipe to make this refreshing cocktail:

Strawberry Basil Margarita Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz fresh lime juice (about 1-2 limes)
  • 1 oz agave syrup (or simple syrup, adjust to taste)
  • 2 oz tequila (preferably silver)
  • 1 oz triple sec (or any orange liqueur)
  • 4-5 strawberries (fresh, hulled and sliced)
  • 4-5 basil leaves (fresh)
  • Ice (for shaking and serving)
  • Salt or sugar (for rimming the glass, optional)
  • Basil leaf and a strawberry (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Glass (Optional):
  • If desired, rim your glass with salt or sugar. To do this, run a lime wedge around the edge of the glass, then dip it into a plate of salt or sugar. Set aside.
  1. Muddle the Strawberries and Basil:
  • In a cocktail shaker, add the sliced strawberries and basil leaves. Use a muddler or the back of a spoon to gently muddle them together, releasing the flavors without over-mashing.
  1. Add the Liquids:
  • To the shaker, add the fresh lime juice, agave syrup, tequila, and triple sec.
  1. Shake with Ice:
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake well for about 15-20 seconds, until the mixture is chilled.
  1. Strain and Serve:
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with ice. You can use a fine-mesh strainer to catch any bits of strawberry or basil if you prefer a smoother drink.
  1. Garnish:
  • Garnish with a fresh basil leaf and a whole strawberry on the rim of the glass.
  1. Enjoy:
  • Serve immediately and enjoy your refreshing Strawberry Basil Margarita!

Tips:

  • Adjust Sweetness: Depending on the sweetness of your strawberries, you may want to adjust the amount of agave syrup or simple syrup.
  • Frozen Strawberries: You can use frozen strawberries for a slushy version. Blend the ingredients together with ice instead of shaking.
  • Mocktail Version: To make a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the tequila and triple sec, and enjoy it as a strawberry basil limeade.

Enjoy your delicious cocktail!
